Terry and Clyde
We are Clyde and Terry Coles, two Americans who had never travelled outside of the US until we said, “adios” to our lives in the US and retired early to Panama, at the ages of 51 and 57. Life in Panama was good to us, until we took our first ever trip to Europe. We fell in love with travel and longed to explore more of the world but lacked the money to make it happen. Then we heard about house and pet sitting that proved to be a gamechanger.
In 2016 we sold everything in Panama except for what would fit into two carry-on sized suitcases each along with small backpacks. For the next two years we lived rent free around the world as international house and pet sitters. Our house-sitting adventures took us to Thailand, Kenya, Egypt, England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Italy, Spain, France, Denmark, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, and Portugal, just to name a few.
Since we are animal lovers, we enjoyed giving belly rubs to adorable dogs and cats but have also cared for alpacas, pigeons, chickens, guinea pigs, fish, turtles and more. In exchange for free pet care, we’ve lived in luxury houses, city apartments, expansive estates, and even a medieval granary beneath the shadow of a castle…. absolutely free!
